Reader Daniel Olson directed this comment to Reader Daniel in 0regon, and I asked him to share it with us:

Dear Daniel,

This is truly good news. Fr. George is an outstanding priest. He will be an excellent addition to the episcopate of the Church Abroad. As bishop of South America, which has been without a resident bishop for many, long years (Bishop Alexander [Mileant], the previous bishop, resided in California and only occasionally visited his diocese).

There are many difficult problems in South America, the most pressing of which is a dire shortage of clergy. Hopefully, over time, the new bishop will able to deal with the various problems. In any case, his presence cannot help but encourage our faithful there.

There is undoubtedly some sadness felt at Fr. George's elevation, since it has only become possible because of the death earlier this year of his matushka. But the ways of the Lord are inscrutable.

From: Protodeacon Basil Yakimov

Dear All,

It was a moving tonsure service (his Eminence, Metropolitan Agafangel, called it a miracle of our times) and many wept, it was almost a full Church (many young people). Father George is now Father Gregory (St Greg. Palamas) and he is in his Church praying all night - Archbishop Sofrony is also here with us...

Father Gregory will have the title of the Bishop GREGORY of Sao Paulo and South America.

Asking for all your prayers, please.
